I created this piece for my final in my Painting II class during my Spring 2024 semester at Messiah University. I based the image on a still from my friend’s film project, inspired by Wong Kar Wai’s cinematography. I wanted the emphasis of the painting to be on the illuminated glasses rather than the illuminated face. I thought the complementary reds and greens were a challenging but highly rewarding color palette, encouraging me to stretch my knowledge of color theory.
The piece was chosen by the professors for the Juried Student Exhibition and was displayed over the summer in the Aughinbaugh Gallery at Messiah University.
